per custom, meeting started with LRP updates from Dave.
Due to uncertainty surrounding the Federal budget, NSF is planning for reduced budget in 2014 (anticipating second round of sequestration). As a result, most of the large projects (also many of the small ones) in the CPS annual project plan for 2014 have been deferred, nominally until 2015 but a favorable outcome for the NSF budget could bring some back on line. Specifically, procurement of AWO, and the design of science traverse facility and ISI station are on the deferred list. However, GrIT is on schedule for 2014.
MOU between the telescope team and NSF is still in the hands of lawyers on the 2 sides, but no major roadblocks are known. It is anticipated that the telescope will eventually be deployed to Summit, and some version of ISI will be needed. Time line is of course subject to slippage, pending funding decisions.
Representatives from the telescope team, CPS and ALEX making another visit to Thule next week to further the planning to assemble telescope there prior to shipping to Summit via GrIT.
Katrine reported that turnover was going very well, nearly complete. We discussed some unclear aspects of the protocol to record GPS locations of all activities disturbing snow on the station and importing these data in the GPS. Katrine agreed to have another discussion with new and old techs before departing, and will probably schedule a telecon with Bob and the new techs to address any lingering questions and iron out fine details sometime next week.
Techs were questioning whether the standard meteorological observations (3 x per day) were redundant, since they were writing down parameters (WS,WD, Temp) that are recorded regularly. SCO stressed that the sky, precipitation, and surface condition observations are not automated, but are valuable. Jack and Bob have both used these data in several manuscripts, and expect others have done/will do. It was agreed that the observations would continue.
Actions: Katrine to set up telecom on GPS/GIS when she gets back to the office next week.
