Logistics
Summit Station is operated and maintained by VECO Polar Resources with guidance from the Science Coordination Office and funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation.
Conducting Research at Summit Station
Summit Station is an interdisciplinary research facility. Research in any field is encouraged. All projects are coordinated by the Science Coordination Office to facilitate collaboration between research groups.Logistics for research projects are provided by CH2M Hill Polar Services (CPS). The SCO and CPS work together to outline the requirements for each field season, and to minimize any impacts projects may have on one another.
There are several steps required to conduct research at the station. Below is a summary of the process with some resources for further information.
Step 1:
Contact the SCO and CPS| SCO Contact Information |
CPS Contact Information |
| John Burkhart Email: sco(AT)summitcamp.org Phone: +47 96 82 50 11 |
Sandy Starkweather Email: sandy(AT)polarfield.com Phone: +1 303 984 1450 |
Note: If you have concerns about sharing your proposal with the SCO, please contact Diana Garcia-Lavigne at CPS.
Step 2:
Define your projectOnce you have contacted CPS and the SCO you will need to provide a detailed list of your logistical requirements. There are forms available from CPS to help in this process. The best place to start planning is through their website at: http://www.vecopolar.com
Step 3:
Submit your project for approvalWorking with CPS and the SCO you will prepare the project plan as defined above. Once this is completed you will need to apply to the NSF for support. This process is different as a function of several factors. Key points to note are that projects working in collaboration with US NSF funded research will likely get support directly. Other projects may be subject to user day charges. Each project is decided on a case-by-case basis. For European investigators see the ACCENT network ACCESS to INFRASTRUCTURES for possible financial support with user fees.
Step 4:
Fill out the forms and review station policiesNOTE: If you are unfamiliar with the process, it is recommended to visit here first.
