John Burkhart @

Summit_BurkhartJF093.JPGJohn Burkhart has been involved with Summit Station since 1998. As the only 'beaker' during a quiet season before the first Bighouse lift, he chose to stay on as staff and since that time hasn't really left - well, in spirit anyway. He spent the 2004/2005 midwinter phase at Summit. Aside from his research in the Arctic, he helps run the Summit Science Coordination Office.

Here you will find photos of people, places, and science over the years at Summit.

Robert Hawley @

Bob at wokr Bob Hawley started working as a glaciologist in 1995, as an undergraduate at the University of Washington, through the National Science Foundation 'Research Experience for Undergraduates' (REU) Programme. Following the completion of his BS degree he continued in glaciological research by participating in the inaugural winter-over at Summit camp, Greenland, during the 1997-1998 boreal winter. During this time he spent 11 months on station, 9 of which were shared with only four others. He currently holds the camp record for most continuous months on site.

He earned a Ph. D. in geophysics from the University of Washington in 2005. His research interests include: the physics of firn densification, mass balance of large ice sheets, interpretation of ice core records, and remote sensing. Here you will find a few pictures of his work at Summit.
